Old fashioned BBQ Sauce

One of my favourite sauces back in the sugar fiend days, was a good old bbq sauce. BBQ sauce is an Aussie legend.

Last night, determined to make a cauliflower bbq meat lovers pizza  (replacing pork with basturma & sujuk) , I got to work to make a bbq sauce. It took about 15 minutes to make, and there is so much sauce leftover to jar and store for later adventures.

Heres what I used:

2 teaspoons of smoked paprika

1/2 cup of plain pasta sauce (with garlic is fine)

1/3 cup of water

1 heaped teaspoon of crushed garlic

1 tablespoon of maple syrup

2 teaspoons of xylitol

1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon of all-spice

1/2 teaspoon of sea salt

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

2 heaped teaspoons of mustard

Pepper

Pinch of cayenne pepper.

Instructions:

  1. Mix ingredients in a blender
  2. Heat mixture in a saucepan over medium heat for 10 minutes
  3. Lower to a simmer for 5- 10 minutes. Stir
  4. Allow to cool a little then mix the ingredients into the blender again to mix the sauce again.

Your sauce is ready!
